Youth
Taskforce 2008
An
exciting new Youth Taskforce
is being
formed for the purpose of
reviewing and suggesting new
programs, events,
achievements, challenges,
and opportunities for youth
through the ALSA Youth
Program. Chaired by
BOD members, Marilyn Nenni,
Larry Lewellyn, and Mary
Alice Pilbin, the taskforce
will be comprised of ALSA
adult members and ALSA
youth members who are
willing to work on new ideas
for our Youth Program.
The purpose of the
taskforce, with all Regional
representation, is to seek
input
and ideas from our
membership, both youth and
adults. If you are
interested in participating
in this Taskforce, please
contact any of the BOD
members involved.
As the Youth Taskforce 2008
progresses, ideas and
discussions will be posted
on
this site for your review
and further input.
Membership participation is
requested.

Youth Events For 2008
More
youth only events are being
scheduled for 2008 including
the first annual All
American Youth Jamboree
&
Shows. See scheduled
youth events here.
Annual
Top Ten Youth List
Discontinued?
The
Youth Committee proposed to
discontinue the Youth Annual
Top Ten Lists. The
stated reason was that not
all youth are
able to attend the same
number of shows therefore
making this annual list
unfair. Following this
proposal, concerns were
received from the
membership and youth in
support of the annual Top
Ten Youth List. The
Youth Committee then
proposed to have an Annual
Top Ten or Top Five List
only
for each Region.
BOD sent proposal back to
committee for more
discussion. There will
be a Youth Top Ten Listing
for 2007.

“It is recommended that

INTACT MALES over 24 months
of age, with the choice of
acceptance or decline
lying with show management
and stated in their premium
show booklet.”
New Changes
for
Performance Classes
Section
M, Section 4, D:
Change to: “In
Obstacle
classes, the handler may
choose NOT to
negotiate an obstacle
him/herself without
penalty.”
A
simplification,
correction of spelling,
and omission of the word
“standing”
that would enable petter
to sit in a wheelchair
or on a hospital bed,
for
example. The second is a
simplification of the
wording to remove the
word
“jump”, to omit the
editorial comment at the
end, and to remove the
implied
acceptance of a higher
stepover if the llama is
under 36 months of age.

(from the minutes
of 11-10-05)

2006:
Youth
Juniors - Handler age 8
through 11
Youth Intermediates -
Handler age 12 through
14

age 15 through 18
Age is as of
January 1st of current
year.
Juniors may start
showing on the date of
their 8th birthday.
Youth who turn 19 after
January 1 but before the
Grand
National Show of
their final showing year,
may
complete the year as
a Youth in the Senior
division.
(from
the minutes of
4-10-06)
The rule change that became
effective January 1, 2006,
regarding exhibitors 8
years through 12 years of
age not being allowed the
option of showing intact
males has been amended and
will become effective
immediately. The Board
generally believed that this
rule should allow show
management at each ALSA show
the option of implementing
the rule as appropriate.
Amend Part I, Section 5, K
as follows:
“It is recommended that
exhibitors 8 years through
12 years of age not show
intact males over 24 months
of age, with the choice of
acceptance or decline
lying with show management
and stated in their premium
show booklet.”
